I wanna do stuff with sticks

Yeah? What do you want to do? Do you want to try and take on Chuck Wolfe with a pair of sticks, like you’re some kind of ninja or something? Chuck Wolfe has a very special way of dealing with kids who think they can take him on with sticks.

First of all, he says: “Yo, put the sticks down.”

When the kid has put the sticks down, Chuck Wolfe punches him in the face.

People who have been punched in the face by Chuck Wolfe will tell you just how much it hurts. It hurts a lot and that is why you should never try and take on Chuck Wolfe with a pair of sticks.

Being safe and also being cool – like Chuck Wolfe

Never let it be said that Chuck Wolfe isn’t safe. Whether engaging in taekwondo, karate, or even budo, he will always make sure that he is safe.

If a kid comes to Chuck Wolfe’s dojo for training, safety is paramount. Whether sweeping that kid’s legs from under him, punching him square in the face, or administering a punishment wedgie as he leaves the premises, Chuck Wolfe always thinks about safety.

In 20 years as a sensei, Chuck Wolfe has never once been injured. That says it all about a man who is as safe as he is cool. And he is very, very cool.

How can I become massive and also cool, like you?

Kids often come and ask Chuck Wolfe a question such as this. They see the biceps and the triceps and the delts and the lats and the quads and the pecs and also the coolness, and they can’t help but want a piece of it.

“Do you have the discipline to become massive and also cool?” Chuck Wolfe will ask.

“Sure, I got discipline,” the kid will say.

“Real discipline?” Chuck Wolfe says.

“Yeah, sure,” says the kid.

“Okay,” says Chuck Wolfe. “I am going to punch you in the face. Have you got the discipline to stand there and just take it?”

Sometimes the kid says yes, sometimes the kid says no. Either way, he gets punched in the face.

Want to do mad ninja stuff?

Every now and again, a kid, much like you, comes to see Chuck Wolfe. This kid will want Chuck Wolfe to teach him all sorts of mad ninja stuff.

“Teach me mad ninja stuff,” he will say.

“Like what?” replies Chuck Wolfe. “What kind of mad ninja stuff do you want to learn? Do you want to learn punching?”

“No,” says the kid. “I want to learn stuff that’s madder than that. Like flying kicks and that. Like throwing ninja stars in people’s faces.”

“There’s nothing wrong with punching,” says Chuck Wolfe and then he punches the kid in the face.

Chuck Wolfe knows all of the martial arts

Chuck Wolfe knows martial arts. Chuck Wolfe knows ALL of the martial arts.

Does Chuck Wolfe know karate? He most certainly does.

Dose Chuck Wolfe know judo? Without a doubt, my friend.

How about budo? No, it’s not a typo. Budo is a thing. It’s just not as cool as karate or judo. Don’t know why, because it basically just means ‘martial arts’ and so incorporates other disciplines. But yes, Chuck Wolfe dose know budo.

You might now wonder what Chuck Wolfe’s favourite martial art is. Well, as a martial artist, Chuck Wolfe would have to say that his favourite is ‘punching’.

Is The Back-Street Gym Automatically A Bad Gym?

Many people will only frequent the places that other people talk about, or know of, i.e. only the “best” will do. But when it comes to sports, the showiest and most expensive doesn’t automatically mean the best. Yes, they will have a lot, if not all, of the latest kit and theories and gimmicks, but will they have the longevity and determination that it takes to make a lasting body and mind?

Take Master Sken – a man who runs a very successful muay thai gym, in a less frequented area of Stockport, Manchester. He’s worked hard, every day, for over 32 years, and is one of the most respected men in the sport – yet walking past the gym, you wouldn’t necessarily know it.

So when it comes to choosing your gym, ask around – word of mouth will tell you more than the glitzy flier ever will.

Getting Back Into Martial Arts

Growing up, I had three very good martial arts clubs near my home, and they taught muay thai, karate, and jujutsu. I frequented the muay thai gym, mainly because someone told me “only boys do that”, so, being the type of girl I am, I immediately wanted to go! So I did. :o )

Whilst there, I learned that through hard work, determination and sheer bloody-mindedness, I could achieve anything I really set my mind and heart on. And I took those lessons and applied them at school, at college, at university, and now in the workplace.

However, as the years have gone past, I have lost the time spent down the gym, and I have slowly lost the ability to apply myself consistently for large periods of time. Getting myself back to the gym will help, I know it will. But the energy, time, and whatnot that it takes to start it up again it scary…

But the hardest part is going once; once you’re in, you’re hooked.. so I’ve called the local one, and booked to go in.

Why Choose MMA (Mixed Martial Arts)?

We’re now well into the LBD (little black dress) season, so hours in the gym won’t do much for the outline now (you’ve left it too late!), but it will make you feel a lot more confident in the dress (or suit!) and confidence alone can change the way you stand, walk and look, all contributing to a “better looking” you.

The choice of gym can be a tricky one – will you use the pool, sauna and steam room? Will you use those free classes? Will you actually bother going at all?

With these questions in mind, Mixed Martial Arts is a great way of getting everything into one – its an excellent cardio work out, with great stretches and strength building techniques. The only thing is doesn’t do is take you for a swim (although I’m sure some bright spark somewhere has created an underwater MMA class by now…!)!

So for an all round gym, club, sport, hobby, way of life – choose MMA!

There are loads of local clubs too, so don’t be afraid to give them a call and ask for a free trial.

Which martial arts style is the best out there?

There are hundreds and thousands of martial arts styles out there and even more are being founded weekly but the main questions are

  • Which is the main style of martial arts?
  • Which is the best martial arts style?
  • Can one beat the other?
  • Does one have advantage over the other?
  • Does one take longer than the other to learn?
  • Do you have to travel to Japan and China for some of them?

And there are so many more questions but in the end of the day it does depend on the individual. for example, you can’t see Bruce Lee as a heavyweight boxer now can we?

Some people think they can learn martial arts from animals!!

Some people think they can learn martial arts from animals! This is crazy but people do really believe this.

What’s your opinion on this? The real Chinese and Japanese masters know this is not possible but some are still skeptical and think that the legends of the cat style and wolf style is true but it’s basically a load of rubbish.

Anyway it’s not point spending much time on this and might as well speak about something else in the future so from now on you probably won’t find any posts on this site regarding animal martial arts styles. Fin.
